Let me catch up: Thursday and Friday were pretty typical. Just doing things around the house and then going to work on night shift. Mike finished his recording at my house on Friday and then mixed his stuff and burned cd’s for him. He was happy with the outcome. I did not charge him much because he is a cool guy and I am not doing this professionally right now so I don’t need the money. He was telling me about day trading. He is a day trader and he was offering to teach me how to do it, and show me his formula for making money. It sounded very interesting and tempting. The idea of working from home for 4 hours each morning seems very tempting indeed. I am sure there are some catches to the whole thing. I am sure it’s not as easy as it sounds. If I am not working at some point, I may try it just to see if I like it. I could do it with a minimal investment of a couple grand and just see if it works. I now have an ‘in’, so it would be worth checking out I think.
Yesterday was Saturday. The day started out with Sara calling and we made plans to see a movie. We saw ‘Monster House’ at the AMC hamilton NJ. It was ok, nothing too special. Sara liked it. After the movie we went to my house briefly and then we took the Septa R3 train out of West Trenton to Philadelphia, Chinatown. We knew it was going to rain, but we decided to go anyway. Maybe it was not the best plan but I wanted to show Sara Chinatown, and get her some stuff at the ‘Hello Kitty’ store on 10th street.
Sara watched ‘Follow That Bird’ on the macbook during the train ride there. We arrived and walked to Zen Tea House. We hung out and Sara had chocolate ice cream. I tried a pinapple bubble tea (cold). It started to pour and for some reason we decided (against our better judgement) to venture out in the rain to the Hello Kitty store. We got soaked. It was really raining hard. At one point we ducked into a Chinese grocery on Race St. until the rain let up a little. Then we left and started walking to 10th and it started pouring again. We got hit from all angles and Genie even got splashed by a puddle when a car drove by. We arrived at the Hello Kitty store very wet. Sara loved the store, there is so much stuff in there. Hello Kitty and all the other characters from that line. Literally hundreds of cute things to check out. I ended up getting her a pink Hello Kitty alarm clock (the kind with the metal bells), a Hello Kitty doll (with purple vest, purple plastic boots, angel wings, and purple hair bow), and a Hello Kitty purse/bag which matched the doll (purple decoration of the same doll with white fur around the edges). It ended up costing more than $60 but she was happy, it’s worth every penny. The stuff was nice too, not junk.
We ended up going to the train station (Market East station, 11th St.) after that because we were so wet. We did not get much of a chance to walk around Chinatown because we were wet and it was wet everywhere (puddles). We got to the station on time only to find that the train was delayed. Normally this would not be so bad, but we were wet, hungry and we just wanted to get back into some dry clothes and eat. The train was delayed about 30 or 40 minutes and we just waited on the platform. Finally it arrived and we got on the train and headed home watching ‘My Neighbor Totoro’ on the macbook. Sara hates the new english dub on this DVD. She is used to the english dub on the VHS version. Apperantley, they did a new dub for DVD and Sara knows her movies very well. She can point to every little change in the dub and say ‘They changed that line from .. to ..’. She is very perceptive and she knows all the Miyazaki movies very well.
We were almost home on the train when the train attendant came into our car and announced that the train would not make it to West Trenton because of flooding. We would have to get off at the Yardley, PA station and they were sending a shuttle to drive us to West Trenton from there. We did not get too upset, there was nothing we could do about it. We got off at Yardley and waited another half hour for a Septa bus to come and get us. It was just us, and two other people in a very cold (air conditioning was blasting) Septa bus and we chatted with the driver who told us ‘You need to help me find West Trenton, I’m from Philly’. Bear Tavern road was closed at Grand Avenue, so I showed him how to take DeCou Rd. to the station.
We finally got home, got changed and went to the ‘Tan May’ to get Chinese take out. We watched some more ‘Follow That Bird’ in the living room and then Sara and Genie left at around 10pm. It was a much longer trip to Chinatown than we expected. Sara was happy though. She loved every minute of it. It was, as Suzzy Roche once said in song, ‘A trip and a half’.
